Methodology

Progressive Shopper worked to define a range using three key sources: JUST Capital, OpenSecrets, and League of Conservation Voters (LCV).The internal matrix utilizes the JUST Capital Score and the external matrix incorporates the OpenSecrets and LCV Score. This approach ensures a comprehensive and precise assessment.

To define the range for JUST Capital, we use the industry best and industry average for respective companies. From OpenSecrets and LCV Score, we define the donation range and stance of US politicians towards climate change. Below is an overview of how we captured each source of data.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What is the goal of the Climate Corporate Index?
We aim to promote transparency and inform the general public, and ultimately influence the decision-making of consumers, companies, and policymakers by shedding light to poor practices in climate. In doing so, we hope to urge both companies and policies to shift their practices.
  2. What does a company have to do to shift from orange to green?
A company must double/increases its political donations from anti to pro climate change policy makers. If you feel that we’ve mispresented your companies’ data in anyway, let us know and we’ll work to review it again (info@progressiveshopper.com).
  3. How often is the Index updated?
We aim to update this quarterly and are actively trying to expand our growing list of 900 companies daily. This page was last updated July 13, 2024.
  4. Are there any other groups working on this topic?
Yes. Our third-party sources JUST Capital, OpenSecrets, and League of Conservation Voters are a good way to start.
